A Church wedding setting with aisle bows of pink carnations and white satin ribbon draped with tooling material.

If you are planning on having a church wedding then no doubt the idea of wedding church flowers is somewhere on your list of priorities, although not all couples will agree that decorating the church is necessary.

Before you embark on any plans for your wedding church flowers it would be wise to check with your Vicar/Priest on any rules and regulations that you might be up against to avoid any disappointment and setbacks.

Wedding flowers in general can take up a big portion of your wedding budget sometimes as much as 10%, therefore if you are on a tight budget careful planning is vital at this stage bearing in mind that although a beautifully decorated church is creates a wonderful ambience to start of your wedding day you will only be there for an hour tops.

Budget Saving Tips

Speak to the church and find out if there will be any other ceremonies on your wedding day, as it might be worth asking another bride if they would like to share the cost of the flowers this is a great idea, however moving the flowers later to your reception might not be possible if you are sharing the cost.

Choosing the time of year to get married might make a difference to the church already being decorated Easter and Christmas time you tend to find churches decorated with an abundance of flowers this could save you a fortune, however if you still decide on having your own floral decorations choose colours that match the theme and celebrations.

When choosing your flowers always go for the larger blooms these then to be cheaper like carnations and daisies and don’t forget to integrate lots of greenery adding a few luxurious blooms like lilies and roses will upgrade the arrangements but not the budget.

When decorating the church its wise to place you’re most highly structured arrangements at the front of the church as this is where most of the focus attention will be during the ceremony.

The alter is key place along with any other flat surfaces like tables, remember using any flower arrangement for tables can later be removed and taken on to the reception this will save greatly on the budget, but remember to assign someone to remove them and take them on to the reception ahead of the happy couple.

Decorating the chair backs with small posies can prove expensive an alternative to this is small floral bows or garlands on the pew ends this will still create a fantastic look without breaking the bank balance.

A key factor to consider when organising your wedding church flowers is not to place flower arrangements where they wont be seen, if in doubt sit at the back of the church and have a good look around where you are mostly likely to place the flowers, this should help you decide on how many arrangements you will most possible need without wasting time and money creating unnecessary arrangements.
