Decorating The Red Room

Frank sitting in the Red Room after the decorating of the White House has been completed. Reagan Administration
Sitting in The Red Room at The White House after decorating the mantle with two holiday arrangments filled with assorted greenery of evergreen and holly touched with red carnations and place in the gold urn on the mantle, one on each side, shown here in the photograph behind me. Reagan Administration. The Red Room is furnished in the Empire style of 1810-1830, and contains several pieces of furniture from the New York workshop of the French-born cabinetmaker Charles-Honore Lannuler. The Red Room served as "The President's Antichamber" for the Cabinet Room or President's Library next door. During the Madison Administration the antechamber became the "Yellow Drawing Room" and the scene of Dolley Madison's Fashionable Wednesday night receptions. The fame, beauty, wealth and talents once graced this room of that era. In 2000, the Red Room was refurbished, preserving the American Empire style chosen in 1962 during the Kennedy Administration. It's a very elegant room with a combination of richly carved and finished woods in characteristic designs such as dolphins, acanthus leaves, lion's heads and sphinxes. This is my favorite room in The White House and the one I most enjoyed creating my floral designs

The Red Room is one of three state parlors on the first floor in the White House. The room has served as a parlor and music room, and recent presidents have held small dinner parties in it. It has been traditionally decorated in shades of red.

The room is approximately 28 feet by 22.5 feet. It has six doors, which open into the Cross Hall, Blue Room, South Portico and State Dining Room.

Frank's first Christmas floral design at The White House - 1974. He created a holiday centerpiece, on his very own with no supervision, creating it with assorted red and white blooms and red candles placed in a white porcelain bowl. The centerpiece was then placed on a wooden antique table in The Red Room after the approval of The Chief White House Florist. This was a great moment of success for Frank and his very first White House floral design. Little did he know, he would be doing this for the next twelve years. Ford Administation
